History of Fort Myers Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Incorporated.
Fort Myers (FL) Alumni Chapter’s first organized meeting was held on April 8, 1978. The meeting took place at the home of Brother Jimmie Gilmore, Sr. This meeting was spearheaded by Brother Frederick White, who inspired to organize a local chapter in the South West Florida area.
In order to form a local chapter, ten members in good standing with the fraternity were needed. Brother Fredrick White, in his tireless efforts to extol the virtues of this great fraternity, traveled throughout Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties searching for men of Kappa Alpha Psi, INC.
Circa May 1978, a petition requesting the establishment of the Fort Myers (FL) Alumni Chapter was submitted to the Grand Chapter Board for investigation. During the fall session of the board meeting the petition was presented for consideration. Subsequently, the Fort Myers (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, INC was chartered on December 16, 1978. The Fort Myers (FL) Alumni Chapter’s official charter was hand delivered by Southern Province Polemarch, Brother Ulysses McBride. Significantly, Brother Ulysses McBride later went on to become the 26th Grand Chapter Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi, INC.
